CalTPA Coordinator Position Description

Job Qualifications 

All faculty teaching in the Single Subject Credential Program must have the following qualifications: 

  • MA or MS in education or related field
  • Public secondary school teaching experience
  • Ability to use technology to: effectively communicate with candidates, Mentor Teachers, and program faculty and staff; share and comment on documents; and submit candidate outcomes
  • Committed to ongoing professional development to maintain currency in the field
  • Knowledge of CSUF Single Subject Credential Program requirements

The CalTPA Coordinator must also have specific qualifications as noted below:

  • Have knowledge of CalTPA Cycle 1 and Cycle 2 requirements and guidelines for acceptable support

Narrative Description

  • The CalTPA Assessment Coordinator directs, manages, and implements the California Teaching Performance Assessment Program mandated by the state for the Single Subject Credential Program. This position is allocated 3 units per semester from the COE Dean's Office. 

Responsibilities of this position include:

  1. Faculty and Program Support
  2. Serves as SSCP CalTPA Coordinator for the CTC and attends quarterly CalTPA coordinator meetings as well as quarterly Digging Deeper sessions (see https://www.ctcexams.nesinc.com/TestView.aspx?f=CACBT_Faculty_CalTPA.html)
  3. Maintains currency in CalTPA Cycle 1 and Cycle 2 requirements and changes.
  4. Maintains communication with faculty representing 13 different CalTPA subject areas.
  5. Provides indirect procedural support for approximately 250 Teacher Candidates annually completing CalTPA Cycle 1 and Cycle 2.
  6. Coordinates with SECTEP Director and PDC Coordinator to establish submission due dates and other related issues for CalTPA Cycles 1 and 2.
  7. Shares support suggestions with Supervisors, based on data and current TC needs related to CalTPA.
  8. Provides support for EDSC 440 and 442 methods instructors relating to candidates' CalTPA Cycle 1 preparation as well as for 449S seminar instructors relating to candidates' CalTPA Cylce 2 preparation.
  9. Attends SECTEP meetings monthly to share CalTPA progress, updates, outcomes, and areas of concern.
  10. Serves on SECTEP ad hoc and standing committees as appropriate.
  11. In collaboration with EDSC 460A and EDSC 460B instructor, maintains a Canvas Community site with resources to support Teacher Candidate work on CalTPA Cycle 1 and Cycle 2.
  12. Communicates regularly through email with students about CalTPA Cycle 1 and Cycle 2 benchmarks and deadlines.
  13. Communicates face-to-face with struggling students and students who request additional support outside of EDSC 460A and EDSC 460B.
  14. Informs Teacher Candidates who fail CalTPA Cycle 1 or Cycle 2 about their score and feedback.
  15. Conducts remediation sessions for Teacher Candidates scoring below passing for Cycle 1 or Cycle 2, leading to their resubmission.
  16. Assessment Data Management and Reporting of CalTPA data for the Single Subject Credential Program.
  17. Collects and analyzes TPA data on candidate performance (by content area, task, student, and semester). Provides report to associate dean and department chairs each semester.
  18. Provides feedback loop each semester- identify themes and share data with Dept. Chairs, faculty (possibly at faculty meetings) and SACs.
  19. Reports disaggregated CalTPA data to individual subject-matter SACs.
  20. Coordinates annual training/orientation of SECTEP, Block Leaders, faculty, and field supervisors about CalTPA requirements and updates.
  21. Reports aggregated data for State reports to COE Assessment Coordinator.
  22. Responds to requests for Accreditation information.
