GRADUATE ASSISTANTSHIPS - MSHE

The Master of Science in Higher Education (MSHE) program partners with the VP of Student Affairs office to secure graduate assistantship (GA) placements for our MSHE students. Students have the opportunity to serve as a GA while enrolled in the MSHE program. GA’s work under the supervision of professionals in the field and learn in a supportive work environment while attending classes.

Positions range from 10 to 20 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during scheduled breaks (if department budgets allow). Students must be accepted into the MSHE program in order to be considered for this type of assistantship. MSHE students are not required to hold a GA role, but it is highly recommended for those who do not currently work a full-time job.

After new students are recommended for admission and have confirmed their intent to enroll, they will be invited to participate in our annual GA Placement event. At this event, new and returning students will be scheduled to interview with multiple offices or departments. Most employers are housed at CSUF but there are a handful who come from other colleges and universities. Following the event, students will be placed with a supervisor to complete their 1-year contact to work as that site’s GA.

GA placement is a great opportunity for new para-professionals in our MSHE program seeking experience in Student Affairs. Note that the likelihood of being placed in a GA position is very high. Please see our GA FAQOpens in new window page for additional information.
