The Department of Secondary Education currently has several grants and projects in collaboration with campus departments, local school districts, and local science institutions.

Building Capacity for STEM Education beyond the Classroom: Professional Development for Informal Science Educators

  • Purpose to provide internships for CSUF students intending to teach science or math in k-12 public schools. The focus is on developing knowledge and skills in the areas of STEM instruction, NGSS implementation, and research-based pedagogy. Additionally, interns develop mutually beneficial relationships with educators at informal science institutions, resulting in partnerships that have ongoing educational connections

Expository Reading and Writing Curriculum (ERWC) Project

  • Purpose: a system wide effort to address critical reading and writing problems identified by the CSU English Placement Test Committee and prepare students to meet the expectations of college and university faculty.

Mathematics and Science Teachers Initiative (MSTI) Project

  • Partner: College of Natural Science and Mathematics
  • Purpose: a university-wide initiative to recruit and support Mathematics and Science Teachers
