Giving
Cal State Fullerton’s Department of Literacy and Reading Education has been Giving the Gift of Reading in Orange County for over 50 years. As we continue to celebrate our Golden Anniversary, we are most proud of our Hazel Miller Croy Reading Center (HMC Reading Center), named after the founder of the university’s graduate reading program.
The center provides a practical experience for CSUF graduate students and, most importantly, offers high-quality assessment and intervention in literacy learning to striving readers in the community. Over 100 children come through our various programs each year and we strive to increase that number year after year.
We are excited by the services we provide, but we can do more! It often can take one year on the waiting list for a student to get into our intervention program. Approximately over 50% of the children served in the Center qualify for full scholarships.
Clinic tuition is $400 per semester. A corporate or private provider would charge at least three times that amount. The center’s goal is to increase the availability of scholarships so we can serve more children in need. We invite YOU to GIVE A CHILD THE GIFT OF READING . Scholarship support can make a tremendous difference in a child’s future success.
A gift to the Hazel Miller Croy Reading Center supports scholarships for low income students who would benefit from reading intervention and assessment. Gifts also support free family reading fun events and reading camps for elementary age children in high needs neighborhoods.
On behalf of the children, their families, and the students and faculty in the College of Education, we thank you in advance for investing in the vision of the Hazel Miller Croy Reading Center. If you have any questions regarding the scholarship, please don’t hesitate to contact us at 657-278-2758 or readingcenter@fullerton.edu .
