The Bachelor of Arts in Urban Learning is designed for students who want to become teachers in elementary or special education classrooms or pursue careers supporting children, families, and communities through community organizations and educational programs. Urban Learning Admissions

First-time freshmen and transfer students are encouraged to declare the Urban Learning major when applying to California State University, Fullerton and to attend New Student Orientation. Declaring early helps our department connect with you sooner and provide timely guidance, resources, and academic advising throughout your journey in the program.

The Urban Learning major offers students multiple pathways to begin and progress through the program.

Ways to Get Started

  • First-Time Freshmen
    First-time freshmen are students currently in high school or who have recently graduated and have not taken college courses after the summer following graduation. Students who took college classes during high school are still considered freshman applicants.
  • Upper-Division Transfer Students
    Upper-division transfer students are students transferring to the Urban Learning program with at least 60 transferable semester units (90 quarter units).
  • Want to Change Your Major?
    Newly admitted students must wait until the first day of the semester to request a major change and attend their original major orientation. Current CSUF students should connect with their current department and meet with an Urban Learning advisor for support with the transition. To officially change your major, you may access the form on the CSUF Office of the Registrar’s Website.

How to Apply

  1. Check Deadlines   link opens in a new window  (Fall Only)
  2. Prepare application materials  such as transcripts, test scores (AP/IB), current and planned courses, annual household income, citizenship status and social security number (if available).
  3. Credit/Debit Card or Paypal account  to pay the $70 application fee (per campus), unless you qualify for an application fee waiver.
    Important: Cal State Apply automatically considers for an application fee waiver based on the information provided in the application, and provides immediate  eligibility for a fee waiver link opens in a new window pdf file . The use of fee waiver forms is not required.
  4. Apply: You will apply using  Calstate Apply link opens in a new window . Make sure you click Urban Learning as your major.

Cohort Model

In the Urban Learning program, students take many courses where they are primarily with a group of other Urban Learning students. This builds friendships, creates connections, and develops a strong support network throughout students' time at CSUF and beyond graduation.
