The Early Childhood Special Education Authorization Program is for those candidates who hold an Education Specialist Credential in Mild to Moderate or Extensive Support Needs

Prerequisites:
- Baccalaureate degree
- Minimum grade-point average of 2.5.
- Background knowledge in typical child development and experience with young children

Priority Deadlines: Fall - February 15th and March 15th

Cal State Apply Application ** Please submit all official transcripts to the University **
- Special Education Credential Application via Cal State Apply
- Copy of existing Specialist Credential in Mild to Moderate Support Needs or Extensive Support Needs
- Current CPR Card within 2 years (Infant/Child & Adult required, both sides copied & signed)
- 2 Letters of Recommendation (1 Faculty & 1 Child/Youth Experience)
- Official transcripts - Must submit a separate set of official transcripts from the Bachelor's degree and credential coursework to the department
It consists of the following Core courses (15 units):

SPED 300: Early Childhood Special Education (3)

SPED 421: Working with Families of Individuals with Disabilities (3)

SPED 489C/D: Adviser-approved Directed Teaching in Special Education Course (6)

SPED 415: ECSE Assessment and Intervention (3)
The nine elective units must meet the following criteria: (1) courses will have to diversify and expand upon the student's previous higher education coursework or degree program, and (2) all selected coursework will have to be approved by the program coordinator and department chair. Only 9 units of graduate-level coursework from another institution may be petitioned to fulfill the equivalent course requirements in the authorization program.
