The Single Subject Credential Program is a post-baccalaureate program designed to prepare students to teach specific subjects in K-12 schools in departmentalized settings.

The Department of Secondary Education works collaboratively with departments across campus to train teachers in the following subjects: art, English, foundational level mathematics, mathematics, music, physical education, science (biology, chemistry, geology, physics), social science, theater, world languages (including English Language Development). The credential program is fully accredited by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.

The program spans two-semesters of coursework and fieldwork, including student teaching in local public schools. Prior to starting the program, four prerequisite courses are required. These courses may be taken as electives during undergraduate studies, or taken during one or more semesters as a post-baccalaureate student. A full list of prerequisite and program courses can be found in the university course catalog below. Credential coursework is in-person on the CSUF main campus. There are online options for prerequisite courses only.

Students are placed into subject-specific cohorts with a Subject Area Coordinator who oversees the advisement, admission and progress of students within their program. The list of Subject Area Coordinators is below. Feel free to contact them with any subject-specific questions.

All general credential program questions should be directed to Andrea Pureco at [email protected]
