External applicants have two application options:
Option 1: Take individual courses via Open University
This is typically the best option for teachers who plan to take one course per semester, as it allows you to pay for individual classes as you enroll in them (with no minimum number of courses per semester). However, students enrolled through Open University are not eligible for financial aid, and may only transfer a maximum of 9 units into a graduate program at CSUF. Click here for more information about tuition and fees for Open University Courses.
To apply via Open University, students should:
Option 2: Apply via Cal State Apply.
This is typically the best option if you plan to take two or more courses per semester, are considering future enrollment in one of CSUF’s graduate programs, or plan to apply for financial aid (as students are only eligible for financial aid if admitted to the university as a matriculated student). Students who apply via Cal State Apply pay a set fee per semester, depending upon whether they are taking 1-6 units or 7+ units of coursework. Click here for more information about graduate tuition and fees.
To apply via Cal State Apply, students must apply to the “Secondary Ethnic Studies Pedagogy Certificate” program via Cal State Apply and submit the Secondary Education Department Graduate Certificate Application by the posted deadline (applications are typically accepted October 1- June 1).
