Integrating Bilingual Authorization and the MSTT

There are several options for including Bilingual Authorization as part of your graduate program of study:

1. Candidates interested in bilingual authorization in Spanish can take BiAuth courses during the academic year as program electives, and will earn both their 31-unit Master’s degree and their bilingual authorization in 21 months.

2. Candidates interested in bilingual authorization in Khmer, Korean, Mandarin and Vietnamese will take their BiAuth courses over the summer, and can take these courses prior to entering, at the beginning of, or at the end of, their MSTT program of study.  Summer BiAuth courses count as program electives, keeping students’ overall graduate unit load to 31 units.

3. Candidates who have already earned bilingual authorization at CSUF ay be eligible to “bring in” 6 units of BiAuth courses as program electives, thus shortening their overall graduate program.  Contact Dr. Dover ( adover@fullerton.edu ) for additional information.

Next Steps

Step 1 : Apply to the MS in Transformative Teaching by the admissions deadline (June 1, 2024)

Step 2: Review the requirements for Bilingual Authorization at CSUF, and contact Dr. Fernando/Ferran Rodríguez-Valls at frodriguez-valls@fullerton.edu   with any questions.  Candidates seeking Bilingual Authorization must have a valid California teaching credential and English Learner Authorization, meet language proficiency requirements, and complete 20 hours of fieldwork.

Candidates seeking bilingual authorization in Spanish will formally apply to the BiAuth pathway during their first fall in the MSTT program, and begin their BiAuth coursework during their first spring semester.

Candidates seeking bilingual authorization in other languages, or who already have bilingual authorization, follow individualized programs of study.  Contact Dr. Dover for additional information.  Note: Candidates interested in taking BiAuth courses prior to entering the MSTT program should contact Dr. Rodríguez-Valls ( frodriguez-valls@fullerton.edu ) ASAP; summer BiAuth applications close on April 30th each year.
