Literacy and Reading Personal Statement Rubric

Criteria 4-Exemplary 3-Proficient 2-Developing 1-Beginning
Responds Appropriately and Fully to the Prompt Fully addresses all parts of the prompt; provides comprehensive, relevant, and specific responses to each component. Addresses most parts of the prompt; responses are relevant but may lack some specificity or completeness. Partially addresses the prompt; some components are missing or only briefly mentioned. Does not address the prompt, or responses are off-topic or incomplete.
Demonstrates Clear Writing Writing is exceptionally clear, well-organized, and error-free; ideas flow logically and are easy to follow. Writing is clear and organized; minor errors do not impede understanding. Writing lacks clarity or organization in places; some errors may distract the reader. Writing is unclear, disorganized, and/or contains frequent errors that impede understanding.
Understands the Commitments of the Program Demonstrates a strong understanding of the program’s commitments to literacy, equity, antiracism, and leadership; provides specific, relevant examples. Shows a good understanding of the program’s commitments; provides some specific examples. Shows limited understanding; examples may be vague or only somewhat relevant. Lacks understanding of the program’s commitments; no relevant examples provided.
Demonstrates a Willingness to Learn Clearly expresses openness to growth, learning, and self-reflection; provides specific examples of past learning or plans for future development. Expresses willingness to learn; provides some examples or plans for growth. Shows limited willingness to learn; examples or plans are vague or generic. Does not demonstrate willingness to learn; no examples or plans for growth provided.
