What is the admissions process for the Single Subject Credential Program?

  1. Attend a Single Subject Credential Overview presented by Kristen Shand, Director of Admissions (CP-606, 278-4582, ksnand@fullerton.edu). At this overview, you will obtain information about the program and be assigned to a Subject Area Program Advisor.

  2. Apply to California State University, Fullerton. You may apply online at CSU Mentor. Your admission packet to the University should include:
    1. The Postbaccalaureate/Graduate CSUF University Application (Code 101 for Single Subject Teaching Credential)
    2. An official transcript from each college you have attended.

  3. Apply to the Teacher Education Single Subject Credential Program. The due date for a complete file in the department is September 30 for students applying to the following Spring semester and February 28 for students applying for the following Fall semester. This admission packet is available online at Admission to Teacher Education. Start this process early as there are many forms and processes to complete.

  4. Make an appointment with your Subject Area Program Advisor to review program requirements and confirm that you have established subject matter competency.

  5. Complete prerequisite requirements, including subject matter competency and all required coursework. Click here for a list of Prerequisite and Credential Program coursework.

  6. If you are considering student teaching while in a paid position, review information on the Single Subject Internship Program and make an appointment with Dr. Helen Taylor, Internship Coordinator.

  7. Be prepared for the Interview, which will be conducted during the months of April-May/November-December. Plan to dress professionally. Interviews are conducted in groups or individually; see your Subject Area Program Advisor for specific details.

  8. Anticipate that admissions decisions are made in mid- to late May/December. You will be notified by letter and will be expected to attend a program Preorientation, which is usually scheduled during the week of or after final examinations. It is required that you attend this event.
