Margaret Atwell
Dr. Margaret Atwell received her undergraduate degree from Marquette University, a Master of Science and the Doctorate in Reading from Indiana University. Before beginning her graduate studies, Dr. Atwell taught junior and senior high school in Wisconsin. Her primary research interests have been the interaction of reading and writing in the composing process, the nature of reading comprehension and effective teaching strategies for secondary students and adults. Dr. Atwell has published several articles in professional journals and acted as editor for several editions of the Reading Conference papers at CSUSB. Before coming to CSU Fullerton, she was the Assistant Director of the Learning Center at Indiana University, a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and a tenured professor at CSU San Bernardino where she also served as the Director of that college’s Reading Clinic for many years. In addition, she has presented papers at professional meetings and workshops for practicing teachers throughout the U.S. She has received many awards including the Florence B. Mote Scholar, the National Council of English’ Promising Researcher, and in 1997 the CSUSB campus named her their Outstanding Scholar.
Dr. Atwell currently serves as the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs at CSUF.
