Catherine Maderazo joins the Department of Reading as an Associate Professor. A former elementary teacher and literacy mentor in California she is excited to be part of the graduate reading program at Fullerton. Dr. Maderazo earned her doctorate in Reading and Early Childhood from Arizona State University in 2005. She has been an Assistant Professor of Reading and Elementary Education at Kansas State University and more recently at Towson University in Maryland. Her research interests include literacy teacher education, early and elementary literacy learning, and extending the possibilities for literacy pedagogy that reflects the interests and strengths of diverse children. Her methodology is qualitative and uses interpretive, narrative and case study methods to share stories of the lived experience of literacy pedagogy.
