CSUF Reading Center

What is the CSUF Reading Center?

The Center provides a variety of reading services to meet the needs of educators, parents. and the community. These services are coordinated by nationally recognized faculty and literacy experts in the Reading Department.

Two unique classroom facilities' offer direct, individualized reading instruction for elementary and secondary students. Facilities are designed to foster a positive, supportive environment conducive to various learning styles. An inviting, spacious room, study carrels, sofas, comfortable chairs and tables accommodate large group, cooperative groups or individualized forms of instruction. Each facility features a variety of highly motivational materials aligned with the state standards, including quality literature, learning games, computers and audio-visual equipment.

Instruction is undertaken by CSUF'graduate candidates, enrolled in READ 581, who are completing their Masters in Education and/or Reading Specialist Credential requirements. Once students' academic needs are determiners; teachers implement a learning plan based on exemplary' practices, processes, and strategies.

Tutorial Support Services

For those who need private tutorial services, the Reading Center maintains an extensive amount of highly qualified reading specialists who can accommodate a variety of reading needs, including assessment, instruction and support.

Inservice and Professional Development Services

Direct services to schools or other educational organizations are also available through the Center.

Parent Education

Our qualified staff conducts workshops and disseminates information on ways to support reading outside of the classroom. Newsletters containing helpful hints and suggestions for enhancing reading are published on a regular basis.
