The College of Education consists of the following departments and programs:


Department Descriptions

The College of Education offers a wide range of programs, including multiple subject (K-8), single subject (7-12), and education specialist (special education) teaching credential programs; advanced credential programs in reading, adminstrative services, and special education; six fully online master's programs; and a doctorate of education (Ed.D) in educational leadership.


Educational Leadership

Our mission is to prepare school leaders who demonstrate strategic, instructional, organizational, political and community leadership; and to provide the community a source of scholarship and assistance in interpretation and application of scholarship.  Graduates of our programs will be prepared educational leaders who demonstrate a wide array of knowledge, skills, attributes, and commitment.


Our programs include:

  • Master of Science in Educational Administration
  • Master of Science in Education with a Concentration in Educational Administration and a Preliminary Administrative Services Credential (PASC)
  • Preliminary Administrative Services Credential (PASC)
  • Clear Administrative Services Credential
  • Master of Science in Education with a Concentration in Higher Education (the MSHE Program)
  • Doctorate in Educational Leadership
  • Professional Certificate in Community College Studies


Elementary and Bilingual Education (Grades TK - 8)

Our nationally accredited Multiple Subject Credential Program prepares will prepare you to be an effective leader in the classroom and an advocate for social justice and equity within your school community and the field of education. We offer 2-semester and 3-semester teaching certificate options for our credential candidates, as well as opportunities the add a Bilingual Authorization to your credential or certificate.  We also offer an innovative combined program that allows you to complete the requirements to earn both your Multiple Subject Credential  and  a Masters of Science in Education with a concentration in Curriculum and Instruction at the same time.

  • Combined Preliminary Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and M.S. in Education
  • Master of Science in Education (several concentrations available)
  • Preliminary Credential in Multiple Subject Teaching
  • Multiple Subject Intern Program
  • Bilingual Authorizations

Literacy and Reading Education

Students in our Literacy and Reading Education programs are participants in our state and nationally accredited graduate programs in Reading Education. Our graduate programs are designed to prepare you to be a professional who promotes diversity, engages in collaborative endeavors, thinks critically, maintains professional and ethical standards, and values lifelong learning. 


Our programs include:

  • Masters in Literacy and Reading Education
  • Reading Specialist Credential
  • Reading Certificate
  • Post Secondary Reading and Learning (PRL) Certificate


Master of Science in Instructional Design and Technology

As a graduate student in our MS in Instructional Design and Technology (MSIDT) program, you will experience the best practices in the field that reflect innovative instructional strategies and assessment, as well as evaluation methodologies.  You will also develop skills in project management, learning management systems, collaboration, written communication, technology-enabled media literacy, research, critical thinking and problem solving, while at the same time, learn to use the technical tools to develop the latest curricula. Graduates of our MSIDT program earn a Master of Science in Instructional Design and Technology.    This program is fully online.

Secondary Education (Grades 6 - 12)

As a student of our Secondary Education programs, you will develop skills to teaching in middle school and high school settings and perform as a teacher leader  within those contexts.  Our programs reflect the complex contexts of the secondary classroom and models a professional community where learning is interactive and dynamic.  As a result, you will actively garner the tools needed to create a learning environment that is adaptive and responsive to the needs and strengths of diverse learners in your school communities.

  • Preliminary Credential in Single Subject Teaching
  • Combined Single Subject Teaching Credential  and M.S. in Culturally Responsive Teaching
  • Single Subject Intern Program
  • Bilingual Authorizations
  • Credential Certificates  (several certificates available)


Special Education

Our Special Education programs prepare you to work with students with mild to moderate or moderate to severe disabilities. You will be provided with the theoretical concepts and practical experience required to effectively serve learners with needs.  Each curricula is designed to support you in growing into a special educator that leads your classroom with understanding, knowledge, compassion, and confidence.
