Master's Admission Process

We accept new students on a rolling basis and will close when the program is at capacity. Please apply as soon as possible to be considered for the Fall 2025 semester. Please submit your transcripts when you submit your application. Electronic transcript submissions are preferred. You can find out more about sending transcripts here .
Credentialed teachers are strongly encouraged to apply! We will accept 6 units of your credential courses towards your master's degree requirements. Credential courses are subject to review and acceptance policies. Please email Dr. Gautreau if you have any questions.

Admission Requirements
The MSIDT program requires the following to be considered for admission to our program:
- A bachelor's from an accredited, four-year university
- 3.0 GPA preferred, minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA
- GPAs within 2.5 and 2.99 may be accepted conditionally based on review of completed application.
- Cumulative GPAs that do not meet the minimum requirement will be evaluated on the final 60 units of coursework completed.
Please view the Office of Admissions website for university-level requirements. The application review process allows us to consider experiences, attributes, and other academic metrics, as well as the value an applicant would contribute to learning.
The MSIDT program does not require the Graduate Readiness Exam (GRE) or recommendation letters.
International Students: If you are an International Student, please be sure to seek advisement from International Student Services . International Student Services provides advising to international students on F or J status on immigration, personal, social and cultural matters. Please note: our program does not grant visas.

Application Process
To apply to the MSIDT program, please complete the formal online application to the university Cal State Apply website. Select the "Instructional Design and Technology program" at CSU Fullerton in the "Add Program" section of the application.

Application: Submit an application via Cal State Apply
- Application fee is a non-refundable $70 fee. Cal State Apply offers a fee waiver for those eligible.

Resume & Personal Statement: Submit your resume and personal statement through either "Program Materials" on the application or send the files by email to MSIDT.
- Resume - Please include your academic background, technology-related and professional experience.
- Personal Statement - Please submit a personal statement (500-word limit) indicating your reason for choosing the M.S. in Instructional Design & Technology program, your proposed digital research project topic, as well as your future academic and professional goals.
- Official Transcripts: Please review the information on the Office of Admissions website regarding transcripts. You are required to submit transcripts from the university that awarded your undergraduate degree.
- Financial Aid: Although you may not need financial support at the time of your application, it is best to apply in case your needs change. Please visit the FAFSA website for more information. You can also visit the Office of Financial Aid's website .
- English Language Proficiency Exam scores: Only for students who earned their degree from a country whose native language is not English, regardless of current citizenship. Please review the English Language Proficiency webpage for accepted tests, scores, and exemptions.
After submitting your application:
You will receive a user name and ID from CSUF after successfully submitting your application. You can manage your own application process, primarily the submission and evaluation of your official transcripts, after activating your CSUF student account .
Once your undergraduate transcripts are collected, an admissions committee will review your application.
Notification of admission timeline varies, depending on a review of your official transcripts.

Financial Aid
You may apply for financial aid, prior to being admitted to the university. Follow the instructions on the FAFSA website, located here: https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa
You may contact the Office of Financial Aid for additional questions regarding financial support. Please visit their website for contact information.
Check your ADMISSION status
If you have applied to the university, you may check your admission status by following the instructions listed on the Admissions website for prospective students . Please check frequently during the application process. Questions about the status of transcripts can be directed to the Admissions Office at admissions@fullerton.edu .
Admission Notification & Deposit
After the MSIDT program has reviewed your application, you will receive two emails: one from the university, the other from the MSIDT program. The email from the MSIDT program includes pertinent information for the acceptance process, enrollment and orientation information.
Regardless of your decision, it is important you accept or decline admission using the email sent from the university.
After accepting admission, you will be asked to pay a non-refundable $250 enrollment deposit. The deposit will offset a portion of your registration fees for the first semester. Accepting admission and paying the enrollment deposit are required to confirm your intent to enroll at CSU Fullerton.

Cal State Apply
Cal State Apply is great method for students who wish to become official CSUF students and all that perks that come with it, including financial aid. It is important to note that this route secures you a spot in the program, however, tuition and fees are the same as master's students.

Open University
If you missed the University deadline to apply, you may consider applying through Open University.
Open University is the preferred method for students intending to take one or two courses per semester. It is part of the Extension and International Programs. Please note that you must contact the MSIDT program for the course registration information to register through Open University. You may contact us prior to the enrollment period to place your name on an Open University waitlist. We will remind you when it's time to register.
Enrollment is based on the course availability.
