Being a Mentor

As a mentor for a Cal State Fullerton induction candidate in the Teacher Induction Program, you are charged with the task of helping this new teacher successfully navigate through the first two years of the teacher's career. Your role as a mentor is critical. The positive impact that a mentor can have on a beginning teacher is well documented in the research literature. The benefits include improved teacher retention, increased teacher effectiveness, and enhanced student achievment to name a few. The research literature also points to the positive benefits for the mentor such as reinvigorated practice, improved understanding of adult learning and professional development, and increased job satisfaction. The relationship and experience between the mentor and inducation candidate can and should be mutually beneficial. This is the perspective we take at the Cal State Fullerton Teacher Induction Program. We want our mentors to feel as highly supported as our induction candidates feel.

This section of the Teacher Induction Program website provides resources for our current program mentors.  The site will be updated with new resources as they become available. As a mentor, you can expect to be in frequent communication with the program director who will check-in with you, provide opportunities for mentor training and professional development, update you about program changes and enhancements, and share important State requirements. Please bookmark this site so you can come back to the resources when needed.
