The program accepts applications until all places in the new cohort are filled with highly qualified candidates for Fall 2012.

Please note: Monday through Friday visitors must purchase a parking permit.  Permit dispenser located in Section S (student parking only) at the far end of College Park parking. The cost of a daily permit is $8.00. The yellow permit machines accept one and five dollar bills only, and doesn't give change.

All students also pay campus-based fees of approximately $320 per term. There are additional costs for books and parking.

Note:  There is an additional "non-resident" fee of $372 per unit (8 units a term) for those who are not California residents. *These figures include the 10% fee increase announced in June.

Enrollment Requirements*

  •  The degree requires 60 units of study.
  • 42 units must be done in residence at CSUF.
  • The program is designed to be completed in three full years including summer terms.
  • Student must enroll each term until their dissertation is completed.                

    Year One:          fall, spring, summer

    Year Two:         fall, spring, summer

    Year Three:       fall, spring, summer

    Each semester of enrollment prior to completing coursework and the dissertation, students pay the Ed.D. Tuition and Fees set by the CSU System.

Free Application for Federal Student Aid—FAFSA

Most graduate students are eligible for some form of financial aid.  You should complete a FAFSA form when you are considering applying for graduate school programs.  You can list multiple campuses and programs on the application.  This form is required in order to receive grants, loans, and scholarships.

Accreditation Approvals

WASC
The EDD has the approval of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

NCATE
The program is part of the College of Education which also has the prestigious NCATE national accreditation. 

CTC
The Professional Credential program, which is available for Ed.D. students, is approved by CTC.


Program Mission

The mission of the Ed.D. Program is to prepare informed and reflective educational leaders who ethically apply critical skills of evaluation, analysis, synthesis, and action to ensure excellence and equity in educational practice as they serve as stewards to the education community.

Distinctive Features of the Program:

  • Partnerships with PreK-12 and Community College Leaders: Our partners will participate substantively in program design, candidate recruitment and admissions, teaching, and program assessment and evaluation.
  • Innovative Pedagogical Practices: Instructional strategies utilized are responsive to the needs and contributions of professionals enrolled in the program.  Interdisciplinary faculty will integrate different perspectives in examining field-based problems.
  • Focus on Problems of Educational Practice: Research and course assignments will address important educational needs.  Faculty and students will use a range of research methods to focus on actions to improve educational outcomes for all students.
  • Development of Leadership for Change: Our region faces rapid population growth and rapid changes in the needs of children, adults and families served by educational institutions. Schools and districts must also meet the increasing standards for academic performance of students.
  • Rigorous Academic Program Resulting in Practice-Based Research: Given the dynamic environments in which graduates of this program must provide leadership, it is critical that they receive rigorous research training. Our graduates will demonstrate that they can use strong research skills to develop and implement reforms in educational settings.
  • High Quality Teaching: Faculty who instruct in the Ed.D. Program are experts in the content of the particular course and masters in the art/craft of teaching
