Program Mission

The mission of the Ed.D. Program is to prepare informed and reflective educational leaders who ethically apply critical skills of evaluation, analysis, synthesis, and action to ensure excellence and equity in educational practice as they serve as stewards to the education community.

Distinctive Features of the Program:

  • Partnerships with PreK-12 and Community College Leaders: Our partners will participate substantively in program design, candidate recruitment and admissions, teaching, and program assessment and evaluation.
  • Innovative Pedagogical Practices: Instructional strategies utilized are responsive to the needs and contributions of professionals enrolled in the program.  Interdisciplinary faculty will integrate different perspectives in examining field-based problems.
  • Focus on Problems of Educational Practice: Research and course assignments will address important educational needs.  Faculty and students will use a range of research methods to focus on actions to improve educational outcomes for all students.
  • Development of Leadership for Change: Our region faces rapid population growth and rapid changes in the needs of children, adults and families served by educational institutions. Schools and districts must also meet the increasing standards for academic performance of students.
  • Rigorous Academic Program Resulting in Practice-Based Research: Given the dynamic environments in which graduates of this program must provide leadership, it is critical that they receive rigorous research training. Our graduates will demonstrate that they can use strong research skills to develop and implement reforms in educational settings.
