Teaching Performance Assessment (TPA)

SB2042 and AB1059 (Level I)
The Preliminary Credential is SB2042 and AB1059 compliant. SB2042 places responsibility for your Professional Credential with your employing district (see paragraph below). AB1059 means you are qualified to teach English language learners (CLAD) and no further coursework is required.

Professional Clear Single Subject Credential (Level II)

Once employed, candidates will be required to meet the new Standards of Quality and Effectiveness for Professional Teacher Induction Programs to receive their Professional Clear Credential. Programs to meet these standards will be established in collaboration with local school districts. Once employed, you will be informed of the district’s offerings.

If you do not become employed or are employed by a private school, you may be eligible to complete your Professional Clear Credential through a Fifth Year Program at California State University, Fullerton. Please see the Department of Secondary Education for information on this option.

CLAD (Cross-Cultural Language and Academic Development)

Candidates who completed their Preliminary Credential prior to July 2002 are not AB1059 compliant and are required to complete the CLAD Certificate Program. Please see the Department of Secondary Education web site for information on this program.
