Future Teachers is a pre-service teacher enhancement program provided by the Department of Secondary Education.
The program provides CSU-eligible high school juniors and seniors in partner high schools with a one-semester, three-unit college-credit course (EDSC 110: The Teaching Experience ), which includes a weekly seminar, tutoring experience, special day on the university campus, and career and academic advising. Future Teachers Advisors are high school teachers (one at each school site) who teach the course in their classroom.
While enrolled in the course, students have access to the university library, health services, and other facilities. Tuition is covered by the university; health fees are covered by a small grant.
High schools participating in the program are chosen because their districts serve as Professional Development Districts for the Single Subject Credential Program. Future Teachers Advisors are high school teachers (one at each school site) who teach the course in their classroom.
