All faculty teaching Secondary Education credential program coursework must have the following qualifications:
  • MA or MS in education or related field;
  • Public secondary school teaching experience;
  • Meet requirements of EDSC Technology Competency and capable of Blackboard course delivery;
  • Committed to ongoing professional development to maintain currency in the field;
  • Knowledge of California Single Subject Credential requirements; and
  • Specific qualifications as noted below.
 
EDSC 304 Personal Proficiency in Educational Technologies for Secondary Teachers
  • Training in Intel Teach to the Future curriculum
  • Expertise in creation and use of technology-embedded curriculum, instruction, and assessment
  • Proficiency in PowerPoint, Excel, Publisher, Word, and Internet search and retrieval
  • Knowledge of legal and ethical issues in technology
EDSC 310 The Teaching Experience
  • Graduate course work and/or expertise in the area of secondary education
  • Knowledge related to foundations in education, research-based effective teaching, teaching as a profession, and students in a diverse society
  • Knowledge of CSUF Teacher Credential Program
  • Familiarity with CTC, NCLB, CSTP, and TPEs
EDSC 320 Adolescence and Education
  • Graduate coursework and/or expertise in the area of adolescent development
  • Knowledge of issues of adolescent development (cognitive, affective, and biological)
  • Current knowledge in issues of school violence, teen depression and suicide, bullying and harassment, gender roles, chronic and contagious diseases, and legislation related to these issues

EDSC 330 Developing Literacy in Secondary Schools

  • Specific graduate coursework/practical experience in the literacy development of secondary students (MA or PhD in English, Reading , Linguistics, or English Education preferred)
  • Knowledge of the research on literacy development of secondary students, especially struggling readers and linguistically diverse students.
  • Knowledge of second language acquisition

EDSC 340 Teaching Diverse Student Populations in Secondary Schools

  • Graduate and/or expertise in the field
  • Experience in diverse school settings
  • Knowledge of special education, IEPs, policy issues
  • Current knowledge of diversity
  • Current education policy knowledge
EDSC 400 Instructional Methods for Secondary Internship Candidates •  Graduate coursework and training in curriculum and instruction.
  • Expertise in the area of general pedagogy and instructional methodology.
  • Knowledge of portfolio development.
EDSC 410 Teaching English Language Learners in Secondary Schools
  • Graduate coursework and/or expertise in working with linguistically and culturally diverse students
  • Knowledge of the research on cross-cultural, language and academic development of students, especially English language learners with linguistically and culturally diverse backgrounds
  • Knowledge of second language acquisition, bilingual education, multicultural education, literacy development, SDAIE strategies
EDSC 440S General Pedagogy of Secondary School Teaching
  • Familiarity with essential pedagogical issues including but not limited to: lesson planning, sequencing, standards-based instruction, and assessment design.
  • Experience with portfolio development
  • Knowledge of gradual induction model of professional development
  • Knowledge of CCTC Teaching Performance Expectations Strong background in classroom management and instructional organization.

EDSC 440F Supervised Fieldwork in Secondary Schools

  • Experience with university and school partnerships
  • Capacity to deliver Master Teacher orientation
  • Knowledge of assessing classroom-based instruction
  • Knowledge of CCTC Teaching Performance Expectations

442 Teaching in the Secondary School
449E Externship in Secondary Teaching

  • Graduate coursework and/or expertise in subject area and curriculum and instruction
  • Experience in diverse school settings
  • Knowledge of CCTC Teaching Performance Expectations
  • Knowledge CA content standards
  • Active in subject matter professional memberships
  • For supervisors, experience supervising student teacher candidates and/or mentoring new teachers

449S Seminar in Secondary Teaching
449I Internship in Secondary Teaching

  • Graduate coursework and/or expertise in subject area and curriculum and instruction
  • Experience in diverse school settings
  • Knowledge of CCTC Teaching Performance Expectations
  • Knowledge CA content standards
  • Active in subject matter professional memberships
  • For supervisors, experience supervising student teacher candidates and/or mentoring new teachers
EDSC 460A,B,C Teaching Performance Assessment Preparation
  • Graduate coursework and/or expertise in teacher education and/or teacher assessment
  • Experience in diverse school settings
  • Knowledge of California CSTP, TPEs, TPA; CTC and NCATE standards for teacher credential programs; and NCLB requirements
  • Experience supervising student teacher candidates and/or mentoring new teachers
