Funding Priorities
College of Education
Family Center. The
College of Education is interested in developing
a collaborative partnership with the community
by establishing a family center. The ultimate
goal is to support families in their quest for
self sufficiency and self advocacy. The center
would be a place for parent training and resource
sharing. The vision is for the center to
be staffed from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The
center would include information on schools and
education awareness materials, recommended tutor
list, educational assessment, technology and counseling
resources, recreation and respite services and
any other resources the family center board believes
is critical to enhance family and community relations..
($300,000).
Distinguished Lecture Series.
The College is seeking funds for expansion of the
instructional leadership conference. Every year the Department
of Educational Leadership holds an annual conference
for students in its thirteen cohorts. We
propose to that this conference become a distinguished
lecturer series and be expanded in incremental
steps. Within a five year period the series will
expand first to county educational leaders, then
state, national, and international audiences. This
distinguished lecturer series will be named in
honor of the individual or organization providing
funding necessary to permanently endow the conference. The
visibility of the series will help in gaining additional
grant funding from national foundations. ($200,000)
The College of Education-International Student
Teaching Project would assist in providing
opportunities for credential and master students
to travel outside of the United States to learn
about another culture as an extended student teaching
opportunity. Thus far, contacts have been made
with schools in Thailand, Costa Rica, New Zealand,
Vietnam and El Salvador. These schools are ready
to assist CSUF in placing students and by providing
room and board. ($100,000).
Literacy and Learning
Center. The
Literacy and Learning Center (LLC) will be housed
in an existing structure on CSUF El Toro campus. The
LLC will contain both a clinic and lab where individuals
with significant learning difficulties will be provided
with learning services specifically tailored to their
needs. The LLC will feature two extensive libraries,
one housing professional texts and instructional
and testing resources, the other housing rich literature
for children as well as hands-on materials, motivational
instructional tools and instructional support material. ($300,000).
Model Technology Laboratory. We
are seeking funding for a state-of-the-art
model technology center that will include a rear
projection SMART Board station, accommodations for
students with disabilities, and all the infrastructure,
hardware, assistive technology and software to model
the use of technology to support teaching and learning
at the secondary level for regular and special education
students. This laboratory would provide support
for training in and use of the Intel ® Teach
to the Future curricula and interactive tools by
university faculty and classroom teachers to promote
secondary student achievement in the content areas. Peripherals
would include digital cameras and camcorders, hand-held,
science probes and microscopes, video conference
hardware, and scanners. ($250,000)
Alumni Related Funding Needs
Edwin Carr Fellows -
Annually, the faculty of the College of Education
recommend to the Dean graduate students who demonstrate
exceptional potential for making significant future
contributions to education. The award is named
for Professor Emeritus Edwin Carr who was appointed
Professor of Education and Economic in 1960. He came to Orange County
State College, our original name, from the University
of Colorado, Boulder. In his active career,
he exemplified the focus of the Edwin Carr Fellowship
through his scholarship and service to his department,
school, and university. He was an honored member
of his profession having served as President of the
National Council of Social Studies. Generally,
there are 5-8 graduating graduate students selected
for the honor. At this time there is no monetary
award associated with the Fellowship. We are
looking to provide each recipient with $500.00. $2,500.00- $4000.00 a year. The sponsors
name would be on the plaque.
Honor a Teacher – Beginning
with the 05-06 academic year we would like to give
all our alumni the opportunity to honor a teacher
(elementary, middle, high school, or university)
who has made a difference in their lives. For
a donation of $50.00 the college would present a
framed certificate to the teacher being honored. We
are looking to have the cost of the certificates
funded by an outside source so that all profits would
go into a scholarship fund to be shared equally by
our teacher preparation and graduate program students.
Cost: $20.00 a certificate. First year
approximately $2,000.00, subsequent years approximately
$400.00 – $600.00. The sponsor’s
name would be on each certificate.
Founder’s Wall – The
College of Education is going to invite all alumni
to have their names placed on a newly created Founder’s
Wall. For a donation of $100.00 they will be
able to have a small plaque indicating their name,
degree/credential, and date placed on the wall. We
are looking to have the cost of the wall and plaques
funded by an outside source. All the income
generated would provide the College with the financial
flexibility to appropriately enhance and support
collaborative efforts with alumni. A permanent
plaque would be placed on the wall thanking the organization(s)
sponsoring the process. $5,000
- $25,000.00 one time cost.
Titan Teachers -
The College will be granting two Titan Teacher
awards to alumni each year. One will be given to
an alumni exhibiting exceptional instruction expertise.
The second will be given to an alumni involved
in effective collaborative activities with the
College. We would like to have a monetary
stipend of $1,000.00 associated with these awards. $2,000.00
a year
Book Scholarships – Textbooks
are becoming increasing more expensive. We
are looking to have a donor sponsor the granting
of 8 book scholarships a year (four each semester)
of $250.00. They will be divided equally between
teacher preparation and graduate students. $2,000.00
a year
Mailing
of Alumni Magazine – Each year the
College will mail an 8 page magazine to alumni bring
them up-to-date on yearly activities. The cost
of the magazine has been underwritten. The
cost of mailing has not. The organization or
individual sponsoring the mailing would have a ½ page
ad expressing our appreciation. $4,000.00
yearly.
