Foundational Studies / Core Courses (6 units)

  • 520 – History and Function of Community Colleges (3 units)
    Examines the development, mission, and role of community colleges in U.S. higher education.
  • EDAD 523 – Student Learning and Development (3 units)
    Explores student development theories and their application in community college settings.

Professional Studies in the Discipline (9 units)

  • Master’s-level coursework in a subject or discipline commonly taught at community colleges
  • Designed to build subject-matter expertise for those interested in teaching at the community college level.

Supervised Practice (3 units)

  • EDAD 568 – Higher Education Fieldwork (3 units)
    • Provides practical, supervised experience in a community college or higher education environment.

Required MSHE Courses
