Dr. Karen S. Ivers

Dr. Karen Ivers is a Full Professor in the Department of Elementary and Bilingual Education at California State University Fullerton (CSUF) where she has been honored numerous times for her outstanding scholarship, teaching, service, and work with technology.  She was awarded CSUF’s first Outstanding Teaching Innovations with Electronic Technology award and was the 2006 Distinguished Faculty Marshall for the College of Education. Currently serving as Chair of the Department, Dr. Ivers has taught courses in educational technology at the Master’s level and was instrumental in the integration of technology in the Department’s credential courses.  Dr. Ivers contributed to the creation of CSUF’s first online master’s degree program – Instructional Design and Technology – serving on the development committee, constructing several of the courses, and teaching in the program.  Dr. Ivers was also selected to contribute to the development of the statewide CalStateTEACH program where she co-chaired the Educational Technology Team, developed the technology handbook, and served as the Regional Center Academic Director for Fullerton.  As Acting Associate Director of the Educational Technology Professional Development Project, she oversaw CSU-wide grant projects geared toward helping K-12 teachers use technology in their classrooms.  Dr. Ivers has served on and chaired department, college, university, and state technology committees, as well as served as a reviewer of educational technology conference proposals, articles, projects, and textbook manuscripts.  Dr. Ivers is an active scholar who explores several topics in educational technology, including online learning.  She has written numerous articles, authored four books, and has created several educational computer programs as well as one commercial program.  She has presented her work at international, national, state, and regional conferences and has received numerous grants to support teachers’ technology development.  She has served as a business consultant for instructional design and technology, as well as an education consultant for technology development programs. 

Before coming to CSUF, Dr. Ivers taught grades Kindergarten through 6th.  She earned her Ph.D. in Instructional Technology and Elementary Education from the University of South Florida in 1994, and joined the CSUF faculty the same year.
