Dr. Andrea M. Guillaume
Dr. Andrea Guillaume, a full professor, enjoys teaching many courses
in the program and graduate programs. These include educational
foundations, mathematics and science methods, survey of educational
research, and the research seminar.
Dr. Guillaume’s research is in teacher cognition, where she
investigates the ways teachers develop as professionals and think
about their work, the complex endeavor of teaching. She also
focuses on active teaching and learning and writes practical pieces
for teachers in content area instruction. Her articles can be found
in sources such as Teaching Children Mathematics, Science
and Children, and The Reading Teacher. Dr. Guillame’s
textbooks include K – 12 Classroom Teaching: A Primer for New
Professionals, the Classroom Mathematics Inventory, Maximum Mentoring (with Gwen Rudney), and 50 Strategies for
Active Teaching: Engaging K – 12 Learners in the Classroom (with Ruth Yopp and Hallie Yopp).
Additionally, Dr. Guillaume serves as Project Associate for the
North Orange County Beginning Teacher Support and Assessment
Program, working with Fullerton, La Habra, and Buena Park teachers
during their induction years.
Dr. Guillaume, who began her career as a sixth-grade teacher,
completed her Master’s and Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction at
the University of California, Riverside where she studied teacher
cognition and instructional practices.
