Credentials
The College of Education offers three types of basic
teaching credentials that prepare students to work
in K-12 settings. The Multiple Subject credential (K-8),
the Single Subject credential (9-12) and the Education
Specialist credential each prepare students for a teaching
career. Advanced credentials include administrative
and reading specialist credentials.
Specifically, Tier
I and administrative credentials prepare teachers (and
others with base credentials) for leadership positions
in schools and school districts.
The Professional
Administrative credential (Tier II) is required for
all school administrators once they are employed. The
Reading Specialist credential prepares teachers to
work with students who need added instructional support
in becoming competent readers.
