Welcome to the Professional Teaching Development Center at California State University, Fullerton
The Professional Teaching Development Center (PTDC) at California State University, Fullerton, serves as a regional focal point and resource provider for accomplished teaching in California. Based on widely accepted core propositions and standards developed by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, the Center provides extensive support to teachers in their pursuit of National Board Certification. The Center also provides support to schools and districts that seek to embed National Board processes into their program improvement efforts. The Center aims to improve student learning through an emphasis on improving teaching quality.
We offer the following services:
- comprehensive support for teachers who are pursuing National Board Certification, both first-time Candidates and Advanced Candidates;
- professional development for teachers through the TakeOne! program;
- on-site professional development for QEIA schools;
- scholarship opportunities for National Board Candidates and TakeOne! participants;
- outreach services to inform teachers, administrators, and educational policy-makers about National Board Certification and TakeOne! and
- leadership opportunities for National Board Certified Teachers.
Our service area includes Orange County, eastern Los Angeles County, Riverside County, and San Bernardino County.
The PTDC at CSU Fullerton is led by Mark Ellis, Ph.D., NBCT and Tara Barnhart, MA, NBCT, both faculty in the College of Education and trained Candidate Support Providers. Funding for the PTDC is generously provided through a grant from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards as well as in-kind support from the College of Education and Department of Secondary Education.
